When you read the good old story of David and Goliath in the Bible, one of the first thing you notice is that the Israelite army was ‘’terrified’’ of the giant [I Samuel 17:11]. Goliath started and ended each day with taunts. As this continued, it demoralized and diminished the fighting capability of the Israelites. They began to believe in spite of their best efforts, something undesirable was going to happen to them i.e. their defeat.
This is basically the definition of fear—the belief that something is out there that is going to get you and that you can’t do anything to stop it. This fear can manifest itself in many different ways— stress -anxiety-depression, nervousness, worry, dread, hopelessness, panic, insomnia, addiction to drugs ,alcohol and food e.g chocolates, physical health problems e.g. chronic heartburn, unspecified skin rashes, bowel problems to name a few—and can spring up in your life from a variety of sources. Perhaps you experience fear as a result of the environment in which you were raised; you have been maltreated, your family or and friends have made it look normal to be in fear ; you feel like you’re left behind in life- all your friends are getting married and having children- fear of getting old and cant have children; or perhaps you experience fear as a result of trying to conceal mistakes and imperfections in your life; you are ashamed of something you’ve done in the past, and you worry that one day it will be made public and brought to light; you experience fear as a result of trying to control too many things in your life or you realized that most things in your life are out of your control, and this makes you fearful about what will happen in the future.
Fear can get a foothold in your life and begin to dominate you. It can demoralize you and ultimately diminish God’s glory in your life. It can chew away your life, erode your sense of confidence, rob you of sleep, blind you and steal your praises to God. Fear is a relentless weapon the enemy uses to trap and connect you to himself. And it is one that must be broken through the power of Jesus Christ [Yeshua] our Commander in Chief.
The solution to facing the giant of fear in your life is not by determination but by faith in Jesus Christ. It isn’t so much saying, “Fear, go away,” but confessing, “I have confidence that Yeshua is bigger than this giant and has already defeated it.” In Romans 10:17, Paul states, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” . When you see and hear God in and through his Word, the Word allows you to see and hear that HE is bigger than your Fear. That builds up your faith, and your faith in turn becomes the ‘stone’ that drops the giant of fear in your life. David used the word by faith ‘I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the Israelite Armies… [I Samuel 17:45]’; that word is Jesus Christ [John 1:1-2].
So today, identify the source of your fear and place it in the hands of Yeshua. Remind yourself that with Adonai all things are possible; trust no man but God alone – because you will be disappointed; Jesus Christ will overcome all your Fears [Matthew 19:26]. The love for money will not take away your fear; being content with what you have now will bring Jesus Christ to the scene [Hebrews 13:5]. Yeshua said in Matthew 6:34 that, we should not worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself; each day has enough trouble of its own.
Before every battle, there is a briefing or speech by a commander to their troops, however you build courage to follow your leader into a war zone not by the speech but by their fruits [Matthew 7:15-20]. Who do you spend your time listening to? Are they growing your faith or growing your fear? As a disciple of Jesus Christ, the opposite of fear isn’t courage but Faith – Yeshua our commander in chief said ‘’ if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the barren fig tree, but even if you tell a mountain ‘be lifted up and thrown into the sea’ it will be done [Matthew 21:18-22]. Eli (God) has commanded us to be strong and courageous and not to be afraid or discouraged for HE is with us wherever we go [Joshua 1:9]; HE is the same yesterday, today, and for ever [Hebrews 13:8].
Take a moment Brothers and Sisters, and name what is keeping you up at night- grab a pen and write them down, and then offload those cares to the One who has promised to care for you [1 Peter 5:7]. Remember we are not like others- one of our weapons is praise and worship; they are so powerful in breaking any chain of fears attached to our lives [Psalm 56:3]. Don’t spend so much time listening to songs of this world and watching immoral television programs- addicted to social media – these are currently the secret weapons the enemy is using to trap you with fear. ‘You are no longer content in life and want to be what you hear and see’. So, grab your sword against fear -fill your mouth and heart with praise and worship, because you see God’s might, recognize his love for you, and know that he will always come through. Put all your hopes onto our Lord Jesus Christ ,His mercies will never fail, for they are new every morning [Lamentations 3:22-23].
I relegate fear to its proper place: into the hands of Jesus Christ today; Eli, my Lord God is bigger than my fears and has overcome. Amen
Isaiah 43:1-2,18-19 1 John 4:8 Philippians 4:6 Psalm 34:4 Isaiah 41:10 Deuteronomy 31:6 Psalm 118:6 Romans 8:31 Luke 11:33-36
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life [John 3:16 KJV].
Jesus Christ said in Matthew 24, that …gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations and then the end will come.
All you need now is to accept Jesus Christ as your saviour in your heart , and if you do this willingly this day at this very hour, you are saved just like the criminal on the cross with Jesus Christ ; all he said was ,” remember me in your kingdom and Jesus Christ replied ,” this day you will be with me in paradise” [Luke 24]. Is never too late to be saved and there is no sin ever committed on earth that God can not forgive if you willingly come to HIM with repentance. God bless you, Amen.
