“…for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7 TLV).
Spiritual Blindness and Giving with Purpose
Spiritual blindness, instigated by the enemy, often causes problems, setbacks, and afflictions in our lives. Brothers and sisters, look around. You will surely find someone in need of the little you have.
Instead of giving all your resources only to the church, consider the neighbor who cannot afford medical care. A niece or nephew may be out of school due to poverty and need your help. Your parents or grandparents might be lonely, sick, or hungry—and you have the means to support them.
Our 10% tithe can produce more grace and blessing when directed to real needs (Matthew 25:31–46). Christ Jesus (Yahusha) is now the High Priest forever. We no longer serve Levitical priests, for all believers are priests before God (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6; Revelation 5:10).
Old Covenant Giving vs. New Covenant Grace
Abraham and Jacob gave their tithe freely out of faith before the Mosaic Law—and God blessed them (Genesis 14:18–20; Genesis 28:20–22).
Today, under God’s grace, believers are free to give less or more than 10%—without compulsion (Romans 6:14–15). We are not bound by all 613 laws of the Torah. The new covenant calls us to give by faith, not by compulsion, for grace unlocks the anointing of God.
Unfortunately, many teachers misinterpret the Torah to instill guilt, doubt, and pressure on believers. They emphasize giving for selfish reasons rather than teaching love—the greatest commandment. Christ Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… and love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37–39).
Christ Fulfilled the Law
Yes, Jesus mentioned tithing in Matthew 23:23, but He was speaking to Jews under the law. He reminded them not to neglect the weightier matters of justice, mercy, and faithfulness.
Before the new covenant came into effect, Christ clarified His mission: “I have not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them” (Matthew 5:17). On the cross, when He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), He fulfilled the law. The need for weekly sacrifices at the temple ended.
As believers under grace, we now give freely from a willing heart—not by law, but by love.
False Prophets and Misused Scriptures
Many false prophets still manipulate believers by misquoting Old Testament verses to demand tithes. They use Leviticus 27:30, Malachi 3:8–10, and even Numbers 23:19 to pressurize givers.
Paul warned the church: “Even if we or an angel from heaven should announce a gospel contrary to what we preached, let that person be cursed!” (Galatians 1:8–9). Teachers will face stricter judgment (James 3:1).
Church leaders should encourage generosity with honesty—it could be a form of “partnerships,” “church building fund,” or “offerings”—not manipulating believers under the law.
Giving from the Heart
Isaiah 58:10–11 says: “If you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness… and you will be like a watered garden.”
Paul echoes this in 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each of you must give as you have decided in your heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Giving is more than money. A smile, a visit, or your presence can bring peace to the lonely, sick, or abandoned.
Final Encouragement
Brothers and sisters, give willingly. Do not be pressured. Give in love, led by the Spirit, and watch the will of God manifest—breakthroughs, healing, deliverance, and salvation will follow.
Christ Jesus—Yahusha—said in Matthew 6:3: “When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”
Now give cheerfully, and see God’s blessings overflow.
Amen.
