How Do You Deny Yourself Of Fleshly Desires?

Recognizing Your Role as a Soldier of Christ

When you accept Yeshua, Jesus Christ as Lord, you become a soldier in His army. Your spiritual uniform identifies you to other believers and makes you visible to the enemy.

Salvation attracts attention. Like honey draws insects, your faith draws the enemy—Satan and his followers—who seek to derail your walk. Their goal is to keep you from the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 25:41 reminds us that the lake of fire was prepared for the devil and his angels, not for us. Spiritual warfare is constant, and souls are at stake.

Spiritual Battles You May Face

Perhaps you face gossip, workplace opposition, family conflict, health struggles, financial stress, or even a crisis of faith. These trials are not random. The enemy uses them to distract and discourage you.

When this happens, respond as Yeshua did in Matthew 16:23: “Get behind me, Satan!” The devil can use anyone—even those close to you—to try to derail your mission.

The Cost of Discipleship

A disciple is more than a student. In biblical times, a disciple imitated their teacher’s life and teachings. Following Yeshua means enduring opposition.

Acts 14 shows that Paul faced stoning but returned to preaching. His perseverance strengthened other believers. As you endure, you inspire those around you.

Luke 14:26, 33 teaches that discipleship means full commitment. We must surrender all to follow Christ.

Spiritual Warfare Requires Endurance

Like soldiers in physical war, spiritual soldiers face constant trials. In the British Army, soldiers commit to defend their nation—even at great cost.

In the spiritual realm, believers commit to follow the Lord of Armies, Yeshua. Luke 6:40 says, “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.”

You are enlisted in God’s army. There will be afflictions, but our Commander has already won. 1 Corinthians 15:57 says, “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Freedom Through Christ

Galatians 5:1 declares that Messiah set us free. Do not return to the yoke of slavery. Your troubles show that you are marked as a disciple of Yeshua.

Luke 9:23 calls us to deny ourselves daily, take up our cross, and follow Him. John 16:33 assures us that although we face troubles, Yeshua has overcome the world.

Standing Strong in the Battle

James 1:3 reminds us that the testing of faith produces endurance. Joshua 1:9 encourages us to be strong and courageous because God is always with us.

Do not fear the battle. Instead, rely on prayer, obedience, and the strength of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:

O Holy Spirit, remove my fear and give me strength to follow You faithfully until Your Kingdom comes. In Yeshua’s name, Amen.
