We All Fall Short
Every one of us makes mistakes. Sometimes we sin without realizing it; other times, we choose it knowingly. Whether it’s lying, anger, jealousy, unforgiveness, pride, lust, or addiction—these actions separate us from God.
The Bible is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:9–10: “People who are immoral, greedy, dishonest, or worship idols will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” That may sound harsh, but it’s a warning given in love.
What Sin Looks Like Today
Sin isn’t always obvious. It can show up as gossip, sexual sin, love of money, or idolizing people. Today, idol worship may look like putting careers, relationships, or even spiritual leaders above God.
Isaiah 2:22 says, “Stop trusting in people. They are only human and breathe through their nostrils. Why hold them in such high regard?”
Why Repentance Matters
Repentance means turning away from sin and turning toward God. It starts with admitting our faults and asking for forgiveness. According to 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all wrongdoing.”
Without repentance, sin blocks our connection with God—just like a bad signal weakens a phone call. Prayer becomes harder, and we feel distant from His Spirit.
Staying Connected to God
Jesus told His disciples in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit would help us remember His teachings and guide us in truth. But the Spirit can be grieved by bitterness, anger, and hate (Ephesians 4:30–32). When that happens, our spiritual “signal” drops.
If it feels like your prayers aren’t being answered, check your heart. Is there unrepented sin? Jesus said in Matthew 3:8, “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.”
No One Is Too Far Gone
You might feel like your sins are too great. But God’s forgiveness is bigger than your past. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God won’t let you face temptations you can’t overcome. He always provides a way out.
Whether your struggle is with lust, anger, addiction, or fear—Jesus can set you free. He helped King David, Moses, and many others. He will help you too.
Cut Off What Pulls You Down
Jesus used strong language in Matthew 5:30 to show how seriously we should take sin: “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.” That doesn’t mean literally harming yourself—it means removing harmful influences, like toxic relationships or bad habits.
Sometimes, choosing God means saying goodbye to people or places that lead you into sin.
A Personal Note
For years, I struggled with lust. I tried everything to change. I failed many times. But when I genuinely turned to Jesus, He helped me break free. It didn’t happen overnight, but by His grace, He turned my scars into signs of healing. He can do the same for you.
The Truth About Grace
Yes, Jesus died for our sins. But that doesn’t give us permission to keep sinning. Hebrews 10:26 warns us that if we keep sinning after knowing the truth, we place ourselves in danger.
Stay connected to Jesus, remain in His Word, and trust the Holy Spirit to help you grow. As Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Without me, you can do nothing.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I turn away from my sins and turn to You. Break every chain in my life and fill me with Your Spirit. Thank You for Your grace and mercy. Amen.
